At Reservation Desk, we understand that plans can change. Our Australian travel refund policy is designed to be fair and transparent, while adhering to the specific guidelines set by each Australian service provider (accommodation, tours, transport). Most bookings have varying cancellation penalties based on how close to your travel date you cancel.

Australian Travel Cancellation Timeline

Refund amounts are typically determined by when you cancel relative to your travel date:

  • 60+ days before travel: Full refund (minus any non-refundable deposits)
  • 59-30 days: 75% refund of booking cost
  • 29-15 days: 50% refund of booking cost
  • 14-7 days: 25% refund of booking cost
  • 6 days or less: No refund (unless covered by travel insurance)

Note: Some remote experiences (Uluru, Kakadu, Ningaloo Reef) may have stricter policies due to limited capacity.

Refund Process

When you submit a cancellation request, our team will:

  • Review your booking details and applicable provider policies
  • Calculate any refund amount based on the cancellation timeline
  • Process the refund request with the Australian service provider
  • Keep you informed of the refund status throughout the process

Refund processing typically takes 5-10 business days for Australian bank transfers, or 7-14 business days for international card refunds.

Special Circumstances

  • Peak season (Dec-Jan, Easter, school holidays) may have stricter cancellation policies
  • Luxury lodges and boutique accommodations often have different cancellation terms
  • Group bookings (6+ people) have specific cancellation guidelines
  • Special promotions or early bird deals may have non-refundable deposits
  • National Park passes and permits have their own refund policies
  • Travel insurance claims follow separate procedures

Additional Information

  • Car rental bookings can typically be cancelled up to 48 hours before pick-up
  • Domestic flights follow airline-specific cancellation policies
  • Tour bookings may have different cancellation windows (often 72 hours notice required)
  • Some experiences (Great Barrier Reef tours, Uluru cultural experiences) require longer notice for cancellations
  • COVID-19 related cancellations may be eligible for special consideration
